Ants’ Fables (1) The Death of The Shark

In order to study the habits of sharks, scientists put a shark in an aquarium.

The aquarium staff made a glass bulb to separate the shark from other fish. They did it purposely so that they can feed the shark in different way. At the beginning, the shark always attempted to attack other fishes, however, it failed every time because of the invisible glass cover. After many failures, the shark gradually gave up making attacks. Every day it habitually took nothing but the food given.

One day, some wild life protection organization men saw the imprisoned shark. They thought that the shark was very pitiful being housed in the small room, so they strongly urged that the shark be put back into the sea. The aquarium people responded accordingly.

More than ten days later, the body of the shark was found on morning on the beach after a tide. Scientists dissected it and found that the shark died of hunger.

Ants’ Fables (2) The Sculpture of a God

There once stood a clay sculpture of a god in the temple. It was very tall and mighty, and vividly sculpted. Many people came to pay pilgrimage to it. The sculpture, therefore, became very proud of itself.

It thought that it was a real god. Seeing the sculpture so overwhelming, the clay beside it said loudly: “Hi, boy! Do you really think you are so haughty and mighty? You were not at tall like this when you were under here with us!”

The sculpture glimpsed the clay scornfully and said: “Times have changed. In the past, I was as miserable and shabby as you are, but now I am a god worshipped by millions. Don’t you think I am qualified enough to be proud of myself?

The clay from then on never talked to the sculpture.

Due to years of winds and rains, the roof of the temple began to leak because it was not renovated. Rain water constantly dropped to the head of the sculpture, and finally down to its feet.

With years of washing and brushing of rains and winds, the sculpture became more and more ugly. People began to dislike it. No one came to worship it any more.

Finally in a night of heavy rains and high winds, the sculptured collapsed with a loud crash. Its arrogant head, accidentally, rolled back into the hollow from which the clay for making it was taken.

Ants’ Fables (28) Man Inferior to Bird

Zhisu and the sage were engaged in a discussion about the mysteries of the world. Zhisu said: “In this world, man is the master of myriad things. No other life can greater than man.”The sage said nothing in reply except a smile. At that moment, a flock of waders accidently flied across the sky very quickly. The sage looked up at the waders flying northword and said: “Do you know where these waders are from and where they are heading for?” Zhisu shook his head for a reply. The sage continued: “They are from Australia and now they are heading for the North Pole. Their flight lasts for more than ten thousand miles. But on such a long flight, they only pauss three times for food.” Zhisu was very surprised to hear it. He asked: “What do they fly so hard for then?” The sage said: “They fly there for their sacred mission. Before spring comes to the North Pole, there will be tens of billion tons of insects newly born. The waders must kill these insects before they grow on wings, otherwise these insects will eat out all the plants on the Earth when they grow up. The waders pay a pretty dear price in order to reach the North Pole on time. Because on their flight, they not only have to fight against rainstorms and windstorms, but also have to sacrifice a lot of forces due to the lack of strength. What’s worse? They have to suffering being hunted by man. In this case, man is inferior to birds. What is man great for then?” Zhisu was left speechless.
